Toyotas stay on the road a long time, so we see every generation of key. An older Corolla or Camry might have a plain metal key or an early chip key with a thick black head. A Tacoma or Tundra often has a key blade with lock and unlock buttons built into the head. Most newer RAV4s, Highlanders and Siennas start with a push-button smart key, and the Prius went to a smart key earlier than most.
Toyota smart keys have a small emergency blade inside, which is handy when the fob battery dies. Pop it out, open the door, then hold the fob up to the start button and many models will still start. If every key is gone, we cut a new one and program it to the car where it sits. Some of the newest models need extra steps, and we'll tell you on the phone if yours is one of them.
Lost your only key, need a spare, or the remote quit? Call (469) 444-9993 with your year and model, and we'll tell you what your Toyota needs and the price before anyone drives out.
Good to know
- Keep at least two working keys. A spare costs far less than an all-keys-lost job.
- Weak fob? Hold it right against the start button. Many Toyotas read it there even with a dead battery.
- Worn Tacoma and 4Runner keys can make the ignition feel sticky. A fresh key often fixes it.

How much does a replacement car key cost?
It depends on the job. When you call (469) 444-9993, we ask a few questions and give you the total. The main things that affect the price are:
- The type of key: basic, transponder chip, remote head, flip key or push-to-start smart key
- Your vehicle's year, make and model
- Whether you still have one working key or lost them all
- Whether the lock or ignition needs repair
- Time of day and where the car is parked
The technician confirms that same price with you before starting.
What to have ready
- Year, model and VIN if you have it
- Where the vehicle is parked
- Photo ID and proof of ownership (title, registration or insurance)
- Any remaining key, even if it's broken

Toyota key replacement FAQ
My Toyota says 'key not detected' but the fob is right here. What's wrong?
Usually it's a weak fob battery. Swap the coin battery, and in the meantime hold the fob against the start button. If that doesn't work, the fob may need to be reprogrammed or replaced.
Can you make a key for an older Toyota with no chip?
Yes. Older keys without a chip just need to be cut, either from the key code or by decoding the lock.
Can you replace a Toyota key if I lost all of them?
Yes, for most Toyota models. We verify ownership, cut a new key from the key code or by decoding the lock, and program it to your Toyota on site.
Is a locksmith cheaper than the Toyota dealer?
Usually. We come to your Toyota, so there's no tow, and our key and programming prices are typically below dealership rates.
