Kia keys look a lot like Hyundai's, since the two companies share a lot of parts. Many Fortes, Souls and Optimas use a flip key, while Sorentos, Telluride and higher-trim K5s often have a smart key with push-button start. Families with Telluride and Sorento SUVs tend to want a second fob so both drivers have one.
Like some older Hyundais, some older Kia models with a turn-key ignition were built without an immobilizer, and Kia offered a software update for many of them. If you lose a key to one of those cars, we can make a replacement and point you to the update. For newer Kias, we cut and program flip keys and smart keys on site for most models.
Lost your only key, need a spare, or the remote quit? Call (469) 444-9993 with your year and model, and we'll tell you what your Kia needs and the price before anyone drives out.
Good to know
- Two drivers, one fob? Add a second fob before the first one gets lost.
- Older turn-key Kia? Ask the dealer about the anti-theft software update.
- Flip key hinge loose? Replace the shell before the blade breaks.

How much does a replacement car key cost?
It depends on the job. When you call (469) 444-9993, we ask a few questions and give you the total. The main things that affect the price are:
- The type of key: basic, transponder chip, remote head, flip key or push-to-start smart key

- Whether you still have one working key or lost them all
- Whether the lock or ignition needs repair
- Time of day and where the car is parked
The technician confirms that same price with you before starting.
What to have ready
- Year, model and VIN if you have it
- Where the vehicle is parked
- Photo ID and proof of ownership (title, registration or insurance)
- Any remaining key, even if it's broken

Kia key replacement FAQ
Can you program a second smart key for my Telluride?
Yes. Adding a fob while you still have a working one is the easiest and cheapest time to do it.
My Kia key fob buttons don't work but the car starts. What's wrong?
Usually a dead fob battery or a worn button pad. We can replace the battery or the case, or reprogram the remote if it lost sync.
Can you replace a Kia key if I lost all of them?
Yes, for most Kia models. We verify ownership, cut a new key from the key code or by decoding the lock, and program it to your Kia on site.
Is a locksmith cheaper than the Kia dealer?
Usually. We come to your Kia, so there's no tow, and our key and programming prices are typically below dealership rates.
